In Depth

Generate Session Summaries

Session summaries turn raw gameplay data into structured, readable reports with a single click. Hover over any session in a learner's Activity Feed, click the generate button, and Spellcaster creates a rich text note pre-filled with everything that happened in that session.

Key Benefits:

  • Save time — no manual data entry or number crunching
  • Consistent format across all session reports
  • Fully editable — add your own observations after generation
  • Colour-coded accuracy for instant visual understanding

What's in a Session Summary

Each generated summary includes a comprehensive breakdown of the learner's session:

Session Overview:

  • Date and time of the session
  • Total session duration
  • Number of activities completed

Per-Activity Breakdown:

  • Activity name — which mini-game was played
  • Skill category — the literacy skill being practised (e.g. phonemic awareness, morphology)
  • Phonics context — the specific level or sound pattern targeted
  • Accuracy — colour-coded percentage (green for 80%+, yellow for 50%+, red below 50%) with correct/total counts
  • Error analysis — every error listed with the student's answer vs. the correct answer, sorted by frequency, with repeat counts highlighted

How to Generate a Summary

Steps:

  1. Navigate to a learner's Activity tab
  2. Hover over any session in the Activity Feed
  3. Click the generate button that appears
  4. Spellcaster fetches all activity and attempt data for that session
  5. A new note opens in the editor, pre-filled with the structured summary
  6. Edit the summary to add your own observations, then save

The generated summary is saved as a learner note, so it's always accessible from the Notes tab and can be shared via share links.

When to Use Session Summaries

  • Parent communication — generate and share a clear summary of what their child practised and how they performed
  • Progress meetings — quickly pull together evidence of a learner's recent sessions
  • Intervention planning — identify persistent error patterns to target in future instruction
  • Record keeping — maintain a documented history of learner sessions with minimal effort
